Where to Stay in the Jordaan

The Jordaan is the old working-class neighborhood west of the Prinsengracht: narrow canals, local cafés, street markets and the Anne Frank House on its edge. Hotels are few and mostly small, so book early.

The Short Answer

Stay on or near the Bloemgracht, the Egelantiersgracht or the Westerstraat, in the heart of the Jordaan. Our pick is Mr. Jordaan, a small hotel on the Bloemgracht about 10 minutes' walk from Dam Square.

The Jordaan proper has only a handful of hotels, so many good options sit on its edges. For a splurge, The Toren and the Pulitzer are on the Canal Ring side of the Prinsengracht, a few minutes from the Anne Frank House. The north Jordaan around the Lindengracht and Noordermarkt is the quietest part, and the Raadhuisstraat by the Westerkerk has the best-value small hotels, with steep stairs to match.
